Scott GentryScott Gentry started his career as a child actor then moving to ABC All My Children first in production straight out of college, then in front of the camera for a short stint as a regular walk-on (woo-hoo!). Scott also worked the stadium camera for NY Jets and Giants games, as well a a multitude of events at the Meadowlands arena in NJ. From there he got into publishing and 6 months after sending his resume to DV magazine, he was the publisher. DV went from last to first place and Scott moved on to AV Video Multimedia Producer and led the team to turn that into Studio Monthly and launch Studio Daily. Scott has since put together the ProVideo Coalition by gathering the best writers and video gurus in the market. It was always the plan to follow ProVideo Coalition with ProPhoto Coalition. There are also several other creative coalition sites planned within the CreativePro Coalition Family.

Heading to Vancouver for Two EventsWhat do you bring when you want to shoot video and photos, but need to pack light? My wife happens to work for an Olympic sponsor and I was lucky enough to tag along in Beijing, and now I’m prepping to leave for a quick three day, two event romp to Vancouver. The trip this time presents some unique challenges in terms of weather, logistics and my personal shot goals. The first thing I needed to consider is TSA flight requirements and what I’d have to check, vs. carry on. Additionally I needed to check Olympic guidelines for any restrictions on equipment at events. So far I’m in luck as the international carry-on rules seem to have settled a tad since Christmas. Additionally, according to Vancouver2010.com, it seems that as long as I’m not re-broadcasting live, I am OK. When you consider a camera that can shoot such spectacular imagery as the Canon 5D MKII, the price tag of $2,900 might not be that far out of reach. Sonnet Echo Expresscard Thunderbolt Adapter Review
Testing the only current Thunderbolt CF card reader option
I’m sure by now that you are aware of the Thunderbolt standard and how it has a theoretical throughput that is much faster than Firewire 800, USB 2 or 3 and eSATA. Like many people I excitedly bought one of the newer Macbooks last year when they first featured Thunderbolt ports but sadly Thunderbolt accessories have been relatively thin on the ground. Some blame high licensing fees imposed by Apple and Intel whilst some blame technical difficulties and incompatibilities with the implementation of the technology. I’ve had my Macbook Air for nearly a year now and until the Sonnet Echo arrived on my doorstep I hadn’t plugged a single Thunderbolt product into it.
Photography: What’s real, what’s not and does it matter?
Is there such a thing as integrity in a photograph?
I got some flack on Facebook about a past post on my blog . I received a comment from a reader or two stating they felt that what they saw in the produced images was not real. Meaning, after running through my workflow in Lightroom the images no longer represented reality. I have gotten this kind of feedback many times in the past. I think people are rather shocked at seeing a photo “undressed”. It’s a bit like seeing a high-fashion model on the streets without any makeup, it can be scary.
