Marshall Introduces 3 new LCD Monitors
by Dan Carr
Great new LCDs for DSLR movie making.
NAB is nearly upon us and Marshall have released details of some great looking new LCD monitors that will sit nicely with those of you using DSLRs or other small video cameras.
Arriving in 3 sizes (5.6″, 7″ and 9″) they all share most features except that the 7 and 9 get a handy HDMI pass through feature that allows you to pass on the HDMI signal from your DSLR and send it to a second monitor for a director of focus puller for example. Perhaps the biggest news about these new LCDs though is a new system that allows you to add additional modular inputs or outputs to the back of the screen. This allows you to configure any of them with HD_SDI inputs. They also feature LEMO connectors for hooking into the power systems of larger cameras like the Arri Alexa or a RED setup. All in all these are by far the most feature packed LCDs we’ve seen on the market. The 7″ in particular seems to hit many nails on the head, and with expandability of the new modular system it should last some time before getting outdated too.

400 watts of LED replaces a 6K? Sounds good to me.
Next time you need to flood a room with soft light - in whatever color temperature - you should give the Ohm a look.

EZ to use, EZ on your wallet
I’ve always been intrigued by jib arms, and usually put off by their high prices. EZ-FX might have a solution to that problem.

You are going to have to look at your 4K footage on *something.*
At NAB 2012, when you see a crowd of people clotted around a small booth, it’s a sign you should pay attention. The Eizo full 4K monitor I found there was easily one of the most beautiful I saw all week, with a price tag to match. Also: A belated “Thanks!” to my colleague Erik Higgs for letting me edit on his laptop while in Vegas.
