My usual plan when visiting trade shows is to get some hands on time with the new big announcements and then spend a day poking around every other little thing I can find at the show. Occasionally I stumble across something that I have no prior knowledge of and when that also happens to be something amazingly cool then it's even better. This was the case when I walked onto the Schneider booth at PPE this year. I'd just come from spending some time at Leica, playing with all their new cameras and also their gorgeous S Lenses. The LEICA TS APO ELMAR S 120mm f5.6 ASPH in particular impressed me with it's clever tilt-shift design and frankly stunning build quality.

Canon's latest super telephoto monster

Canon's 200-400 was announced as an in-development lens more than 12 months ago. This means that it hasn't yet become an official lens and that we don't know when it will ship and how much it will cost. Canon is still staying tight-lipped about this unfortunately, despite the lens being heavily tested during the summer Olympics. It's understandable that they want to take their time with it, in the pro market this is perhaps their most anticipated lens ever since it satisfies both the sports photography market and the wildlife market. A few years ago an f4 lens might not have peaked the interest of sports photographers but with ISO capabilities getting better by the year, f4 should do a fine job in a stadium these days and reports from Olympic photographers (non-Canon employed ones) were extremely positive.

As well as all of the official camera announcements that we already covered there was an innumerable number of other interesting new products from all of the big manufacturers. New high end printers from Canon , new lenses from Panasonic, Schneider and Sigma and new camera bags from Think Tank, Gura Gear and Lowepro. There's far to many to mention them all but I have lined up what I consider to be the most important and potentially the most interesting for the pro market.
